This week's questions come from Leslie Hachtel. You can visit her blog at

Do you prefer to write futuristic, contemporary or historical romances and why?

Currently I am working on a contemporary romance. I have written historicals (ages ago when my writing sucked big time.) I also have a futuristic in the works. I've got plots, characters and scenes laid out. However, one never knows if they'll get to that huge backlog of ideas. I've got too many ideas to keep track of. Suffice it to say that I'll never be stuck for an plot to turn into a novel.

What is your favorite time in history and how and why does it inspire you?

I don't know that I have a favorite time in history. But I do love cowboy novels. Past and present. I've known a few cowboys in my day. I'm not sure I would want to live their lives, but they are totally lickable! Oh goodness, I'm drooling just thinking about cowboys. (Happy sigh.) Perhaps the fact that they often make my heart race is a factor in the sight of a cowboy being inspirational. Kind of makes me wonder how I ended up married to an engineer.

How has your life experience contributed to your writing?

I don't know that it has contributed in a direct way. But I believe that everything we do, experience, try, taste and love influences who we are and what we write. A person's perceptions change over time. I looked at the stories I wrote many years ago. The heroines are so naive and young. As I have aged, my heroines have grown. Now, I write women who are stronger, older and more self-sufficient.

  4. Ripped cowboys oh yeah! Growing up, I wanted to be a cowgirl...not too many horses in suburbia. But the first vehicle I bought was a Ford Bronco!
